Kawaihae's long-awaited 2nd album called "Kawaihae
2" isbeing sold under Columbia Records' Navel label. Gaylord Holomalia
was in charge of the mixing. Once again Lopaka Colon played all the percussion.
On "Kawaihae 2" there are11 songs, 8 originals & 3 covers.
Throughout the album the "Kawaihae sound" is showcased. Here is
an introduction towhat you can expect.
First of all on the opening track Konishiki joins in as an MC. This track
truly has the feel of a "Weekend Party".
On the 2nd track "Easy Come Easy Go", ukulele sensation Herb
Ohta Jr. who also played on "Small Kid Days" off the 1st cd
also joins in & you can hear his melodic solos.
The 3rd track "I'll Be There For You", is the theme song for
the popular American sitcom "Friends". We've played this song
many times before recording it at our concerts.
The 4th track is Vance's love ballad "Miss You". According to
him, he's singing about a long-distance relationship. We've also on occassion
played this song before.
On the 6th track "Lonely Street", is our attempt at copping
a latin groove. Our guest Luis Sator played the latin riffs on the uke.
On the 8th track "Again & Again", Jeff, Vance & Jimbo
take turns soloing on the uke. Try & see if you can tell who's playing
which phrases.
The 9th track is a cover of U2's "I
Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". Guest virtuoso Bryan Tolentino
joins in on the uke.
The last track is Jimbo's beautiful arrangement of "Nada Sou Sou"
& "Pua Olena". He played the slack-key guitar & uke
parts, Vance played uke part.
The album cover was taken by surf photographer Taisuke Yokoyama. The
setting was at the American restaurant & bar "the Road &
the Sky" located in Kanazawa Bunko.
